ABSTRACT

Human Factors Integration is a systematic method of incorporating all aspects of human factors and ergonomics into the appropriate stages of the engineering process.

The integration of human factors into engineering design was originally made systematic by defence procurement, first in the US and shortly afterwards in the UK. Contractors are required to consider human factors in the design and modification of defence systems. This is to ensure total system effectiveness by recognising the capabilities and limitations of the system operators, maintainers, and repairers.
