ABSTRACT

The use of nanostructure materials is not a recently discovered era. Back in the 4th century AD the Romans used nanosized metal particles to decorate cups. The first known and the most famous example is the Lycurgus cup. In this cup, as well as the famous stained glasses of the 10th, 11th, and 12th centuries, metal nanoparticles

account for the visual appearance. This property is used in other ways in addition to stained glass. For example, particles of titanium dioxide (TiO2) have been used for a long time as the sun-blocking agent in sunscreens. Today, nanotechnology refers to technological study and application involving nanoparticles.
