ABSTRACT
The majority of concrete pavements are JPCP, which do not require any reinforcement. When dowels allow for movement, there is no need for reinforcement within the pavement to resist forces from restraint. Even with JPCP, however, special designs and detailing are necessary for transitions between concrete pavements and bridges and other structures.
