ABSTRACT

A listing of some reagents commonly used to modify lysine residues in proteins is presented in Table 13.1. It is also useful to consult Chapters 2 (Alkylation) and 3 (Acylation) for more information on the chemistry of the reagents. The reagents do vary extensively on reaction rate and specicity of reaction; for example, the reaction rate of acetic anhydride is very rapid but the modication is relatively nonspecic. The reader is directed to a rather nice discussion by Cohen10 for clarication of selectivity versus reactivity.
