ABSTRACT

Numerous patents have been granted to chamomile to date all over the world. These patents are in areas as diverse as oral and topical medicines, medical items such as plasters, skin, hair and oral care, cosmetics, beverages, herbicides and pesticides, veterinary medicines and feed, and ower varieties and ower harvesters. As per the available information, these patents have been granted since the 1800s. As the number of patents on chamomile runs into several hundreds, it is not possible to enumerate all the patents in this chapter. Also, the patents on the individual chemical constituents of chamomile, such as α-bisabolol, chamazulene, or apigenin, are numerous and not included here. However, an attempt has been made here to present information about a few selected patents that are representative of the various areas of uses. Most of the patents are U.S. patents. Other patents, such as the European, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Indian, and those through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) have also been granted to many inventors.
