ABSTRACT

In this chapter the techniques developed in Chapter 10 for heavily loaded line EHL contacts and in Chapters 12 - 14, and 16 for point heavily loaded EHL contacts are extended on the case of thermal point EHL problems for contacts with non-Newtonian lubricants. The problems for point EHL contacts of Chapters 13 and 14 are considered under thermal conditions when lubricants are non-Newtonian. The problems are analyzed for the case of high slide-to-roll ratio. The point EHL problem equations are reduced to equations of problems similar to the thermal line EHL problems for the corresponding non-Newtonian lubricants. In the inlet and exit zones of heavily loaded point EHL contacts along the lubricant ”central” flow streamlines the problems are reduced to asymptotically valid equations similar to the ones obtained in Chapter 10. Analytical formulas for the lubrication film thickness are derived. A specific regularization technique for stabilizing numerical solutions of point EHL problems for heavily loaded contacts is proposed.
