ABSTRACT

Emotional expression develops as follows: tender affection and shame at 12-18 months; pride at 2 years; guilt and shame at 3-4 years. Motor and behavioural development happens as follows: at 2 years a child can go up and down stairs alone, build a tower of six or seven cubes, and parallel play; at 3 years a child can build towers of nine or ten cubes, copy a circle and a cross, and feed itself well; at 4 years a child can use language to describe incidents from the past.
