ABSTRACT

Principles An infrared analyser measures carbon dioxide in anaesthetic breathing systems. Infrared radiation in the range 1-15m is absorbed by all gases with two or more atoms in the molecule provided these atoms are dissimilar. Thus oxygen (O2) does not absorb infrared radiation but carbon monoxide (CO) does.
