ABSTRACT
Thyroid disease presents the most common endocrine disorder after diabetes mellitus. Anaesthetists will encounter patients with thyroid disorders presenting for thyroid surgery. The prevalence of hyperthyroidism is 1.9% in females compared to 0.16-0.23% in males. The prevalence of overt hypothyroidism is 1.4% in females and less than 0.1% in males.
