ABSTRACT
A study investigating the effectiveness of a new antiemetic agent would investigate the drug’s effectiveness over time. This would require a longitudinal study design. The other broad category of study is the cross-sectional study which describes a phenomenon fixed in time (e.g. a description of a staging system for a particular type of tumour). Every study design starts with a thorough literature review to explore previous work in the field involving the drug in question.
