ABSTRACT

The diaphragm constitutes the great muscular septum between the thorax and the abdomen. It is one of the distinguishing features in mammalian anatomy.

The diaphragm consists of peripheral muscle with a central tendon of strong interlacing bundles blending above with the fibrous pericardium.
