ABSTRACT

The brain and spinal cord are surrounded by three membranes or meninges: the dura mater, arachnoid mater and pia mater.

Dural arterial supply Numerous arteries supply the dura mater from the internal carotid, maxillary, ascending pharyngeal, occipital and vertebral arteries. From the clinical standpoint, the most important is the middle meningeal artery, which is commonly damaged in head injuries.
