Indications for scanning in a general hospital 1. Confusion (GCS 14) persisting after the initial assessment and resuscita-
tion. 2. Unstable systemic state precluding transfer to neurosurgical centre. 3. Diagnosis uncertain. 4. Patient fully conscious but with a skull fracture, or following first fit (admit
and consider head scan).
