ABSTRACT
DVT prophylaxis: spinal technique I would refer the patient to a haematologist preoperatively, in particular looking for congenital causes of intravascular thrombosis.
Preoperative factors 1. Not confined to bed. 2. Ambulation prior to theatre. 3. TED (full length) stockings when immobile. 4. Consider subcutaneous unfractionated heparin (e.g. 5000 units b.d.). 5. Fluid hydration whilst fasting.
