ABSTRACT

The consumption of illicit drugs is a growing threat to the health of people worldwide. The first international convention on narcotic drugs: the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs adopted by the UN in 1961, together with the Convention on Psychotropic Substances of 1971 and the UN Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances of 1988, constitute the legal basis for the international co-operation to address the world drug problem.
