ABSTRACT

At present, the management elements of the FCEM curriculum are assessed only through the viva examination. This chapter explores some of the material required for the management viva and suggests approaches to the kind of scenario that may be encountered in the form of either an ‘in-tray’ exercise or a long-case ‘management scenario’. A number of examples are given, grouped according to in-tray priority. The differentiation into in-tray and long-case is somewhat artificial, since the examples are equally applicable to the long-case element. The latter part of this chapter contains a variety of useful information about some aspects of management, and some further examples are embedded in the text to illustrate these.
