ABSTRACT

Whereas the previous chapters dealt with the design aspects of isolated structural elements when exposed to the effects of re, this chapter is concerned with how those elements behave when connected to form part of a structure and how the continuity effects generated when elements are connected can be taken advantage of in a design. Rather than repeat recent material from a number of papers, tests on the various frames at Cardington are covered here to place the emphasis on the implications for design. Additionally, the performance of connections and portal frames will be highlighted.
