ABSTRACT
Chapter 2 presented the rationale behind the concept of calculation methods applied to the design of structures to resist the effects of re. These methods use an extension of the limit state approach that was originally formulated to deal with structural design at ambient conditions to give a structure as a whole a uniform factor of safety against collapse.
