ABSTRACT

The apo CI gene was probably the first to spring from the primordial apolipoprotein gene and to be conserved (Figure 2.14). Apolipoprotein CII probably arose next, followed by another apolipoprotein that duplicated to give apo CIII and AII. There then followed apo E and subsequently AIV. Apolipoprotein AI, with its high mutation rate, is probably a descendent of the main lineage of the ancestral gene.
