ABSTRACT

Powered wheelchairs have overcome the limitations of millions of humans, and these are now visible in all major cities around the world. These have partially solved the mobility problems of people who are unable to walk. Typically, these are controlled by the user with the help of a joystick and require the user to manipulate the joystick, and thus it is necessary for the user to have sufficient control of his/her hand. It is also important for the users of these chairs to have reasonable eyesight to identify obstacles and people in the vicinity, and have a reasonable ability to react to situations in the proximity of the wheelchair. While the powered wheelchairs have been helpful to millions of people, there are many people who are unable to use these chairs due to the above reasons.
