Postgraduate exams can be extremely daunting. Combining revision with your career is challenging and even the very best candidates fi nd it hard to pass all parts at the fi rst attempt. The key to understanding them is to realise that you are not actually expected to pass them all immediately and at the earliest attempt. Unlike fi nals at medical school, which are designed to exclude unsafe doctors and otherwise pass as many candidates as possible, these exams can sometimes seem to be designed to do the exact opposite.
