chapter  4
Core and specialty training
Pages 15

It is worthwhile thinking about the specialty programme you want to apply to as a foundation doctor, as applications will need to be completed partway through your F2 training. If you really do not have any inclinations towards one specialty or another, then it’s not a disaster and you don’t need to panic. With Modernising Medical Careers (MMC), you can keep a relatively broad base to your training until relatively late in your career – typically ST3 level for most specialties. You will however need to decide which broad area in medicine you want to pursue, e.g. medicine, surgery or general practice.
