ABSTRACT

Dynamic lung function tests measure forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) and forced vital capacity (FVC). In obstructive diseases FEV1/FVC reduces; in restrictive conditions it increases.

shifts to the left (an increasing affinity for oxygen) occur with fetal Hb (enhancing placental oxygen uptake), decreased CO2, decreased temperature, decreased 2,3-DPG and increased pH. The presence of carbon monoxide increases the affinity of Hb for oxygen but does not release it to the tissues.
