Ludwig’s angina is an infection of the submandibular space often secondary to a dental infection. Swelling can cause the tongue to be displaced backwards, resulting in airway obstruction.

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is a gastrin-secreting pancreatic adenoma, leading to excess acid secretion. Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with 95% of duodenal and 80% of gastric ulcers. H2-receptor histamine antagonists such as ranitidine reduce acid secretion.
