ABSTRACT

We have demonstrated the use of ip-ops in storing binary information. Several ip-ops put together form a register. A register is used either to store data temporarily or to manipulate data stored in it using the logic circuitry around it. The memory subsystem of a digital computer is functionally a set of such registers where data and programs are stored. The instructions from the programs stored in memory are retrieved by the control unit of the machine (digital computer system) and are decoded to perform the appropriate operation on the data stored either in memory or in a set of registers in the processing unit.
