ABSTRACT

About the chapter This chapter focuses on how people use control devices to control or guide the activity of machinery, vehicles, or processes. The chapter introduces some fundamental control concepts, statistics, and applications that provide perspective on how to model and measure human performance of control tasks, before briefly dicussing topics such as fuzzy-control logic and supervisory control. The latter topics are becoming important with the development of increasingly sophisticated equipment that can perform many of the functions done by people in the past, including communication.
