A psychological approach to the management of cognitive impairment in dementia aims to promote the best possible quality of life for both people with dementia and their carers, by offering positive, individualized and effective management. With the growing emphasis on early diagnosis of dementia, there are increasing opportunities to provide psychological interventions from the earliest stages of dementia. This chapter focuses on practical and personalized strategies. Assessment and feedback processes are outlined and specific techniques for managing cognitive impairment in early, moderate and later stage dementia are described.
