Good ‘dementia-friendly’ design and technology maximizes the independence of the person with dementia and reduces the burden of care for families or health and social care workers. It can reduce the cost of care by delaying institutionalization and reducing adverse incidents in care settings. In addition, because the best practice recommendation may even be less expensive than what the architect or project manager would otherwise propose, the financial savings can start even before the project is operational.
