ABSTRACT

In the ICD-10, five main subtypes of schizophrenia can be distinguished based on their characteristics and course (see Fig. 6.1 for symptoms).

= Paranoid schizophrenia: = most common type; = clinical features:

– paranoid delusions (delusions of persecution/reference/control), – auditory hallucinations (second-or third-person), – perceptual disturbance, – hallucinations of smell, taste, sexual or other bodily sensations;

= course and prognosis: – later onset of illness, – better prognosis than other types.
