ABSTRACT

For each of the following scenarios, select the most likely hernia. Each option may be used once, more than once or not at all.

1. A term baby is born with large amounts of visible intestine emerging from of his abdomen. The external gut is covered with a thin membrane.

2. A 34-year-old man presents with a lower midline mass that is 8 cm in size. He has a history of an emergency laparotomy for toxic megacolon secondary to ulcerative colitis. On examination, the mass is soft, nontender and reducible.
