ABSTRACT
Plasma amylase levels are increased massively in the acute stage. Mild rises in amylase can occur in many conditions – including trauma, peptic
ulcer disease and ruptured aortic aneurysms – and is not specic for pancreatitis. Scoring systems such as the modied Glasgow (Imrie) score are commonly used to indicate disease severity and prognosis.
