ABSTRACT
Anaesthetists use the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) grading to evaluate the physical status of the patient (Table 27.1).
The physical status determined by the ASA grade is not synonymous with risk. The dis - advantage is that the ASA system does not include all aspects of anaesthetic risk, such as smoking, age and difficult intubation.
