It is believed that approximately 2 in every 100 cases of abdominal TB present with small bowel obstruction due to stricture in the terminal ileum or ileocaecal region.

● CAUSATIVE ORGANISMS Tuberculosis can involve any organ in the human body and is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Other mycobacteria (called non-tuberculous mycobacteria, NTM), such as Mycobacterium kansasii, can produce a similar clinical and pathological appearance of the disease. Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare (MAI) is seen in patients with immunocompromised conditions such as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Table 30.1 shows the medical classification of mycobacteria.
