ABSTRACT

The Mekong Delta is an alluvial estuary that consists of eight branches and that transports a large amount of fresh water to the sea, even during the dry season (in the order of 2,000 m3/s). As a result, the tide is strongly damped and the branches of the delta are rather prolonged. This gives the Mekong estuary a clearly riverine character, putting it at the fringe of applicability of this theory.
