ABSTRACT

Infrared radiation consists of a flux of photons, the quantum-mechanical elements of all electromagnetic radiation. e energy of the photon is given by

E hv hcph J m= = = . × −λ µ1 986 10 19 λ (24.1)

where h is the Planck’s constant, c is the speed of light, and λ is the wavelength of the infrared photon in micrometers (µm).
