ABSTRACT

In their 1994 book Cost-justifying Usability, Bias and Mayhew predicted that in 10 years usability would be generally accepted and return on investment (ROI) would be commonly provided to justify usability work. By the time of the 2005 edition, the Web was more established as a part of everyday life, but usability work was still not routinely integrated

into development efforts. Fifteen years after the £rst Bias and Mayhew book, and six years after the publication of an earlier version of this chapter, usability professionals are still working to integrate usability efforts routinely into the product development life cycle, with less than total success.
