Tutorial on Conducting Focus Groups In this chapter focus group methodology is introduced and guidelines are presented for running a successful focus group study.

7.1 What Are Focus Groups? It has been stressed throughout this text that it is important to understand and appreciate from a variety of perspectives the person(s) who will be utilizing the technologies and systems that make telehealth what it is. Not only is it important to understand and characterize physical and cognitive limitations or challenges, but it is important to understand user attitudes and expectations. Without actually involving people, there is no “human” in human factors or usability analyses. The question, of course, is how do we actually get those data?
