ABSTRACT

Optimal power flow is a tool used to enhance power system planning, operation, and control. The objective of an optimal power flow (OPF) algorithm is to find a steady-state operation point that minimizes generation cost, loss, etc., or maximizes social welfare, load ability, etc. while maintaining an acceptable system performance in terms of limits on generators’ real and reactive powers, line flow limits, output of various compensating devices, etc. For most economical and efficient planning and operation of the system, adjustments need effective generation outputs.
