ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Perhaps the most important factors that contribute to a successful outcome from hair restoration surgery are appropriate patient selection by the physician and physician selection by the patient. There are four elements to this selection process: understanding the patient’s goals, the patient’s physical examination, the physician’s ability to meet the patient’s goals, and conveying those abilities to the patient. This chapter discusses the examination and management of the donor area. Every donor region has specific characteristics that allow the informed hair restoration surgeon (HRS) to customize an approach to the individual patient.
