108 Emerging Wireless Networks: Concepts, Techniques, and Applications

Advancement in wireless networking and mobile computing enables users to benefit from diverse mobile communications systems such as wireless local, metropolitan, and wide area networks. On the other hand, subscribers are intensifying demands for seamless roaming across different wireless systems while profiting services anytime, anywhere, and from any device. Under the circumstance, disparate networks are expected to integrate with each other to provide ubiquitous and high data-rate services to roaming users. However, integration of such systems brings about a variety of challenges because of the heterogeneities in security protocol, quality of service provisioning, mobility management, architecture, radio access technology, etc. Therefore designing new interworking and integrated architecture is a crucial task during wireless system evolution. This chapter provides a comprehensive technical guide and references for telecom engineers, researchers, and scientists while planning and designing interworking architectures for the emerging new generation wireless system.
