ABSTRACT

Crime began with Adam and Eve and has been with us ever since. Crime can take many different forms, some major, some petty; some against people and some against property. The consequences of crime for the victim can range from the irritating to the fatal. The consequences for society can also be dramatic, changing the ways in which people perceive each other and how they behave towards each other. But crime is not always a negative for society. Every so often in human history, what at the time was called widespread criminal activity has lead to advances in human rights and tolerance.
