ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Spasticity is a well-known syndrome, most commonly associated with stroke, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury (SCI), traumatic brain injuries, and other central nervous system (CNS) lesions. Many spinal lesion patients have a spastic movement disorder, with slowing of stepping and other voluntary limb movements. Clinical diagnosis of spasticity is based on the combination of physical signs in passive patients, including exaggerated tendon refl exes and muscle hypertonia defi ned as a velocity-dependent resistance of a muscle to stretching (1).
