ABSTRACT

Even though the steady žow models considered in the previous chapter provided us with some insight on the žow through arteries and we considered some applications using the same, more realistic models need to take into account the unsteady nature of žow through the circulatory system. In the unsteady models, the effect of pressure pulse propagation through the arterial wall, the effect of inertial forces due to the acceleration and deceleration of blood, and the effect of distensibility of the arteries on blood žow will be considered. Some applications of the unsteady žow models on the understanding of the blood žow dynamics in the circulatory system will be discussed.
