ABSTRACT

A multitude of selection and screening strategies for phage-displayed libraries have been developed since the technique was rst described by Scott and Smith [1]. Each relies on the ability to discriminate desired phage from the library either through selective capture to allow the removal of unbound phage or through selective elution, as in the case of substrate phage to specically elute desired phage (see Chapter 8). Ultimately, the degree to which target-directed phage can be separated from the rest of the phage library will determine the effectiveness of the panning method. This
