ABSTRACT
This appendix includes hierarchical taxonomic tables of organism groups and lists full names of and describes a few of the millions of organism taxa, including fossils. Appendix 1 has three main parts: I. Domain Archaea, II. Domain Bacteria, and III. Domain Eukarya. Eukarya has four parts: Kingdoms Animalia, Fungi, Plantae, and Protista. For convenience, fungus-like organisms and lichens are included within Fungi, although a few lichens are algal-bacterium associations, not algal-fungal ones. Appendix 1 also contains the fossil hoax Piltdown Man (in Animalia: Class Mammalia), made of parts of different primate species. Viruses, which many researchers classify as nonorganisms, are in the main body of this book.
