Supramolecular Structures in Organic Electronics

Organics may exhibit isolating, electrically conducting, or semiconducting characteristics which feature their application in electronic devices such as ˆeld-effect transistors (FETs), light-emitting diodes, and solar cells without the need for rare and expensive materials like copper or gold. This opens a new variety of information technology in which various functional components can be combined within a single platform. Many future applications have already been envisioned, which mainly include mobile electronic equipment enabled by the mechanical ¸exibility, (semi)transparency, and the low weight of organic materials (Figure 9.1).
