ABSTRACT

Interest around biofuels at the international level has exploded over the past few years. Biofuels are now high on the agenda of the regional banks (most noticeably, the Inter-American Development Bank), the UN institutions (including UNCTAD and the FAO), as well as the World Bank and the OECD. In spring 2007, Presidents George W. Bush from the United States and Luiz Inãcio da Silva from Brazil announced a pact to build toward international biofuel trade. Today, the European Union, South Africa, China, India, the United States, and Brazil have joined what is now referred to as the International Biofuels Forum (IBF).
