ABSTRACT
The –rst pillar, environmental degradation, represents what humanity does to the natural world. This second pillar, resource conservation, represents what humanity takes from the natural world. Nature is both a source of material wealth to humanity as well as a sewer for our wastes. In this chapter we will focus on what nature gives us.
