ABSTRACT

This chapter is really the essence of the book. Here is where we can make a difference all by ourselves. We do not need government mandates or direction from the pro-nature environmental advocacy organizations. We can simply use the pillars to examine the choices we make and actions we take every day. The next chapter deals with some of the “big” attention-getting environmental issues that certainly deserve our consideration. But the big issues also tend to be the more dif–cult ones. The small individual issues are where we can have a more immediate impact. Remember that seemingly small actions can result in large impacts if enough people are involved. Also remember that these small issues and actions can deliver personal bene–t to ourselves and enrich the quality of our lives. Let us consider a few examples, starting with the simple act of walking pictured in Figure 9.1.
