International approaches to improve resource governance in Africa*

Bad governance and the strong dependency on revenues from the resource sector in many countries led to corruption, weak development orientation of national policies and strategies and a higher conflict potential in general (El Bakri 2009). Only if countries adopt the principles of good governance, strengthen their institutions and help reducing corruption, might Africa’s resource endowment actually contribute towards sustainable development.
